A math teacher at Egyptian School in Tamms was recently one of ten teachers chosen statewide, as the winner of the Golden Apple award for excellence in the classroom.

Elissa Miller says she is thrilled to be recognized for both, her ability to explain algebra, and her ability to motivate students.

"It's not an award for math, because like I said I am a better teacher than a mathematician so I like this award, it kind of highlights the teaching aspect of it."

Alan Mather, President of the Golden Apple Foundation says Miller is an inspiration.

"She finds a way to engage everyone to get students to love math. We heard about Seniors who are opting to take a fourth year of math, because they like her so much."

The Golden Apple Foundation received over 400 nominations of 9th through 12th grade teachers.
