A Franklin County woman died in a crash on Route 148

One person died after a three-vehicle crash Wednesday morning in Franklin County.

The Illinois State Police say 32-year-old Britney Giacone of West Frankfort was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash at the intersection of Route 148 at Park Street Road.

The preliminary investigation indicates a truck driven by 57-year-old Debra Miller from Bonnie failed to yield at the intersection and hit the passenger side of Giacone's S-U-V.

The impact spun Giacone into the rear of a tractor trailer driven by 44-year-old Michael Payne from Stonefort. Giacone was ejected and pronounced dead by the Franklin County Coroner.

The passengers in her S-U-V were flown to a regional hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Miller and Payne did not report any injuries.

Miller was cited for Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident.
