The search is on for a group of people involved in a high-speed chase and traffic crash Monday evening in Carbondale.
Police say around 7:30 p.m. Monday, officers responded to North Illinois Avenue near Charles Road after a single vehicle traffic crash.
During the course of the investigation, officers learned a white Chevrolet Malibu and a black Dodge Charger traveled east on West Walnut Street when an occupant of the Malibu reportedly fired shots from the vehicle toward the driver of the Charger. A high speed chase ensued.
The chase continued north on North Illinois Avenue and ended with the Malibu crashing south of Charles Road. After the crash, three occupants in the Malibu fled on foot to the east and the driver of the Charger drove away southbound on North Illinois Avenue.
The investigation continues.
