The City of West Frankfort honored two police officers who saved two children from a burning vehicle earlier this month.

At Tuesday night's West Frankfort City Council meeting, the Chief of Police presented Captain Clint Willis and Officer Derick Jordan with commendations for their heroic actions.

Around 8:30 p.m. on April 1st, Officer Jordan witnessed a 3 vehicle crash near the intersection of West Main Street and Ken Gray Boulevard. Following the crash one of the vehicles involved immediately burst into flames.

Jordan radioed for assistance and immediately exited his vehicle to assist the occupants of that vehicle.

Captain Clint Willis arrived on scene and began to assist.

Jordan and Willis safely removed the youngsters -- Hunter Pietrantoni and Grayson Dixon -- from the backseat of the burning vehicle.

Hunter and Grayson attended Tuesday night's meeting to thank the officers personally.
