Mental health providers say educators are still recovering from the impact of two year's of upheaval caused by COVID-19. That's why a $300,000 grant from the Illinois Children's Healthcare Foundation, to the Giant City School District is important. Preston Simpson, with behavioral health provider Centerstone, manages these school wellness grants and says the money will enhance programs like suicide prevention, and get everybody involved.
"For example, you know the parents are going to be extremely engaged, we have a leadership team that's set up to meet monthly which includes parents students, school personnel, we really, have that holistic approach."Preston Simpson
However, Simpson added, while COVID numbers are continuing to stay low, the emotional effects on K-12 Kids, from the upheaval the pandemic caused, are continuing to last.
