The Carbondale Police Department is looking for a suspect wanted in a Sunday afternoon shooting incident.

Around 3 p.m. Sunday, officers responded to the 500 block of East Main Street. When they arrived, they found a gunshot victim and immediately began administering lifesaving aid.

The Jackson County Ambulance Service responded and drove the victim to Memorial Hospital of Carbondale for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

During the course of the investigation, officers learned the suspect fired several shots at the victim and then fled south on foot between the buildings in the 500 block of East Main on the south side of the roadway.

The suspect was described as a younger black male approximately 5’10” tall, wearing a red or a maroon hooded sweatshirt and black jeans.

For the second time within the past week, a home security camera has been stolen in Carbondale.

Police responded to a residence in the 700 block of South Taylor Drive late Sunday morning.

Officers learned the suspect stole a security camera from the side of the residence at about 4:30 that same morning.

They say there is no suspect information to provide at this time.

The police department encourages residents with external security cameras to consider mounting them to a fixed object and at a height where they cannot be stolen or tampered with.

Carbondale Police have issued a scam alert after learning someone is falsely claiming to be a member of the department.

Officers say someone is using the name of an actual retired CPD sergeant and calling residents to tell them they're in legal trouble.

The victims are instructed by the suspect to immediately make an online payment in order to resolve the legal issue.

If anyone receives a similar call, officers say immediately hang up, then call them at 618-457-3200.

The Carbondale Police Department does not call anyone and request money over the phone.

Anyone with information about any or all of these incidents is encouraged to contact the Carbondale Police Department at (618) 457-3200 or CrimeStoppers at (618) 549-COPS.
