The Red Cross says be prepared for severe winter weather

As the region readies for a severe winter storm Joe Zydlo with the American Red Cross says if you do need to get out and drive somewhere, take a minute to put some extra items in your car which could make a huge difference, if you do get stranded on the road.

"A windshield scraper, a small broom as well you know to brush off some of that snow. Warm blankets and coats, make sure you have those in your car too as well. If you're going to be stranded or stuck there, in the car make sure you have that."

Make sure your have a full gas tank and Zydlo adds it would also be a good idea to to keep a big bag of cat litter in your trunk to give you extra needed traction. Or, if you do get stuck, pouring the cat litter right at the tires could help you get free from the snow.
