Mount Vernon Mayor John Lewis points to progress in his State of the City Address

In his State of the City address recently, Mt. Vernon Mayor John Lewis highlighted the city's recent accomplishments, as well as what the city needs to do moving forward. The Mayor said over the last several years the city has begun a 97 million dollar project to upgrade the city's water and sewer systems.

"We're about 25 million dollars into that project already. We went from a high of 60 to 80 leaks per month, down to three to seven, saving saving the city tens of thousands of dollars in overtime."

Lewis said, like many other cities, Mount Vernon has sometimes found it difficult to navigate the changing rules caused by the uptick in Covid -19, but he says despite the divisiveness and hardships the pandemic has caused, he is confident Mount Vernon will eventually weather through it and get back to normal.
