Backpacks for Buddies program gives foster kids a sense of normalcy

A program known as Backpacks for Buddies helps kids who are placed in foster care, often on short notice.

State Representative Dave Severin started the program to help minors have some sense of normalcy during often tense times.

"When children are taken out of a home in the middle of the day, or the middle of the night and they have to take their belongings

throw them in a garbage bag, it's already a very contentious, emotional time."

Severin adds the program also collects personal items like, tooth brushes toothpaste and socks to put in the backpacks. To donate a backpack and supplies, call Severin's Marion office at 618-440-5090.
