SIU-Carbondale is now requiring face masks be worn in shared indoor spaces on campus, such as lobbies, hallways and classrooms, regardless of whether or not you've been vaccinated.
An email from Chancellor Austin Lane Tuesday said the regulation is consistent with new guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Illinois Department of Public Health.
According to the CDC, the University is in an area with high transmission of the virus; so leaders believe this step is necessary to keep everyone safe and have an in-person fall semester.
