Flooding this past weekend in Jefferson County resulted in the death of a Woodlawn woman.
Sheriff Jeff Bullard says 25-year-old Shelby Mitchell was recovered from her car on Sunday after the vehicle washed off a flooded road near her home early Saturday morning. Mitchell was the only person in the car.
She was a teacher at Woodlawn High School, but had been hired by the Mt. Vernon Grade School District for the coming academic year.
Sheriff Bullard says an autopsy is getting underway on Monday.
He says intense rainfall produces flooding in certain parts of the county and he urges drivers to turn around if they see water over a roadway.
