Crab Orchard Lake To Be Lowered For Spillway Work

Crab Orchard National Wildlife Refuge
This map shows the change in water levels to be expected as work is completed at Crab Orchard Lake

Boaters and fishermen on Crab Orchard Lake will soon notice a change, as officials let water out of the lake to do repair work on the spillway.

Beginning Tuesday, July 6th, authorities will begin lowering the lake level so repairs can be made. Officials estimate the water will be lowered by four feet.

The drawdown will continue until Spring of 2022 at which time the maintenance will be complete.

Officials advise boaters and fisherman to be aware of shallow areas and use caution at boat ramps.
