The pandemic left a lot of people with financial hardships, but Touch of Nature doesn’t want kids to miss out on summer camp.
SIU’s Touch of Nature host hundreds of kids each year for summer camp.
The uncertainty of last year took its toll on everyone and their finances,
Touch of Nature knows it’s important for kids to get outside and interact with each other.
To help with this they offer scholarships to help get more kids outdoors and in summer camp.
Assistant Director of Outdoor Education and Recreation Brian Croft says they want to remove obstacles that keep kids away from camp.
“When you look at the outdoors and experiences outdoors we always look at what are the barriers to participation and one of those barriers is cost and we want to recognize that and so we really do our best and we’re always looking for donors but we want to take down those barriers so that anyone can experience the outdoors regardless of their financial status.”
Croft says they also provide transportation from Carbondale to The camp.
