Ten SIU Carbondale students have been banned from the campus following a weekend fight.

SIUC Chancellor Rita Cheng says the students have received notices of separation.   The incident occurred Sunday afternoon a little before 5 pm outside of the Mae Smith residence hall.   The fight remains under investigation.


Southern Illinois University researchers are conducting what is probably one of the largest ecosystem research experiments ever attempted -- the harvesting of 3-Million Asian Carp from the Illinois River. 

As Eileen Waldron reports, their goal is to see if fewer fish down-stream would decrease the threat to Lake Michigan.  The research team is also experimenting with turning the carp into fishmeal.

It's been a busy week for the Department of Public Safety at Southern Illinois University Carbondale.

Administrators at Southern Illinois University Carbondale say a number of factors caused enrollment to slide this fall.

Official ten-day enrollment numbers were released yesterday, and show an overall drop of 970 students on the SIU System’s flagship campus.

Leaders say smaller Junior and Senior classes combined with changes in financial aid and a smaller pool of potential students to create the decline. There are 18,847 students enrolled this fall, compared with 19,817 at this time last year.

Experts say the drought of 2012 will go down in the record books, as farmers watch their crops wither away due to lack of rain.  But the moisture shortage may actually be a GOOD thing for some local growers.
