More than 3,600 students will take part in Southern Illinois University Carbondale's Spring Commencement.

SIU's Board of Trustees has approved a three percent increase in tuition for SIU-C beginning fall 2013.

Trustees are meeting Thursday on the SIU Carbondale campus.  Administrators had proposed a 5% increase for SIUC.  Earlier this spring, Chancellor Rita Cheng said even at five percent the increase likely would not off-set a lower appropriation from the state in FY 2014. At the time, Cheng said further reorganization of the Carbondale campus might be needed to make up the gap.


Governor Pat Quinn has named two new SIU Trustees, and that pleases at least one Illinois lawmaker who's been keeping a close watch on things.

Busch Stadium isn’t only for Cardinals baseball games anymore. The stadium will house concerts, a soccer game and for the first time ever, an NCAA football game.

It was formally announced Monday that Southeast Missouri State University will take on Southern Illinois University in the stadium on September 21st at 1:00 pm.

The Southern Illinois University Carbondale Department of Public Safety has issued a campus safety alert.


The head coach at one of the most successful junior college basketball programs in the nation is taking over as the new leader of the women's basketball program at SIU.

Cindy Stein was announced during an afternoon news conference in Carbondale. Stein leaves Illinois Central College after one season and a 3rd place finish in the National Junior College Division Two Tournament last month.   ICC Athletic Director Sue Sinclair says they are grateful to Stein for bringing her outstanding coaching abilities and leadership to their program.

SIU Names Interim Dean of Students

Southern Illinois University Chancellor Rita Cheng announced Monday the appointment of Dr. Katie Sermersheim as Interim Dean of Students.

Dr. Sermersheim will replace Dr. Peter Gitau who accepted a position at Northern Kentucky University.
Sermersheim joined SIU in 1996. She has served as Associate Dean of Students since 2011.  Cheng says a national search will be conducted in the near future to fill the position permanently.
