A situation at a Carbondale apartment complex earlier this afternoon prompted SIU Police to issue a safety alert.

About 1:45 pm SIU Police advised students and community members to avoid the Fields Apartment complex at 700 Lewis Lane because a suspect believed to be armed and suicidal was supposedly within the apartment complex.  The Fields is located near two Carbondale grade schools and other off-campus housing where SIU students live.
