Meet volunteer reader Joan Listen. In 1974, Listen moved to Southern Illinois to attend SIUC and from1975- 1977, she worked at WSIU-TV as an office manager. When Vickie Devenport came on board as the new director of SIRIS, Listen became more familiar with the organization and liked what she heard.

Meet volunteer readers, John and Cheryl Burke Jarvis. The couple recently moved to Southern Illinois in June 2009 from Texas. Cheryl has always listened to NPR/Public Broadcasting wherever she was living. "I'm happy that Carbondale is a big enough town and University to have an NPR station," Cheryl said. "I listen to NPR all the time and that's actually how I heard about SIRIS."

Meet Sarah Andrew, volunteer reader for the Southern Illinois Radio Information Service (SIRIS). Andrew and her husband moved to Southern Illinois in 1975 after accepting jobs at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. An avid listener of public broadcasting, Andrew was pleased to discover Southern's own WSIU Public Broadcasting stations and learned about volunteer opportunities at SIRIS while listening to WSIU Radio. After retiring from the University in 2006, she decided to join SIRIS as a reading volunteer in early 2007.
