Lead

The Jackson County Health Department is looking for Jackson County residents using private well water to participate in free water testing.

Director of the Division of Environmental Health and Emergency Preparedness Bart Hagston says the research project is gathering data on the presence of lead in private water wells.

A series of water quality tests in Galesburg last fall revealed that some residents are being exposed to high amounts of lead.  Now a new round of testing at the same 30 homes showed some improvement.

President Obama is on his way to Flint, Mich., to get a firsthand look at federal efforts to help people in the city where dangerous levels of lead were discovered in the tap water last year.

Obama will meet with Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder as well as 8-year-old Mari Copeny, who's better known as "Little Miss Flint."
