The Jackson County Sheriff's Department is investigating a double homicide in rural Murphysboro.

Deputies say 65-year-old Burl Ritcheson, and his 65-year-old wife Brenda, were found dead inside their home just after midnight on Monday by an adult family member who lived with the couple.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Department says 36-year-old Robert Gifford and 35-year-old Jennifer Gifford, both of Sesser, were charged with burglary and theft of over 500-dollars.

Deputies say at around 7:30 Monday evening, they and other area law enforcement agencies served a search warrant for drugs and explosives on North Stratford Lane in Jefferson County.

Officers say on May 8 at 12:30 p.m., 78-year-old Lee Batie was last seen leaving his apartment in Carbondale.

Three people are in custody and another is being sought following an incident at Kohl's Department Store in Carbondale.

Police received a report of a suspicious vehicle and retail theft at the store around 5:45 Monday afternoon.
As officers arrived in the area, they immediately identified the suspect vehicle and the three suspects.

Carbondale Police arrested three juveniles early Friday morning for a break-in at a local business.
