Sixteen law enforcement agencies across southern Illinois trained Tuesday at John A. Logan College on a federal program called Stop the Bleed.

It's designed to train officers how to handle life-threatening situations where a tourniquet is needed, such as mass shootings, traffic crashes or drug overdoses. Each agency also received bleeding control kits.

A Pulaski County man is headed to prison after pleading guilty to firing gunshots in Carbondale last year.

The Jackson County State's Attorney says 25-year-old Devante Taylor of Olmstead was sentenced to eight years on the charge of Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm.

One man was killed and another seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash early Thursday morning in Washington County.

Illinois State Police say 35-year-old Matthew McKinley of Coulterville died in the accident, while 40-year-old Michael Barfield, Jr. of Nashville suffered life-threatening injuries and was flown to a regional hospital.

The Franklin County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help with a fraud investigation.

Deputies say the case involves a Franklin County resident that was traveling and stopped at a gas station in Princeton, Kentucky.

Carbondale Police have made an arrest in a series of armed robberies from earlier this year involving food delivery drivers.

Officers says in April, they received three separate reports of armed robberies of restaurant delivery drivers.

Two former officials with the Alexander County Housing Authority face a civil fraud complaint accusing them of using public housing money for personal use.

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development announced the complaint Tuesday against former housing authority executive directors James Wilson and Martha Franklin.

Secretary of State Police will target holiday shoppers abusing disability parking at malls statewide, including University Mall in Carbondale.

The enforcement will start on Black Friday since it marks the unofficial start of the holiday shopping season and is one of the busiest shopping days of the year.
