A suspect has been arrested for an armed robbery last week at the Circle K convenience store in Carbondale.

The Carbondale Police Department says 43-year-old Arthur Eckles, Jr. of Calumet City was arrested and taken to the Jackson County Jail, where his bond is set at 500-thousand dollars.

A southern Illinois woman avoids jail time for resisting a peace officer earlier this year.

The Jackson County State's Attorney's office says 29-year-old Lauren Stoelzle of Herrin was sentenced to serve 12 months' probation and perform 100 hours of public service work. She was found guilty in a bench trial.

The Cities of Carbondale and Herrin are offering a $3,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for a recent string of armed robberies in both cities.

Seven robberies occurred from July 27th through September 16th.

A Jackson County Jury returned guilty verdicts on five criminal counts against a Carbondale man.

A federal grand jury now accuses the alleged kidnapper of Yingying Zhang of murdering her as well.

The U.S. Supreme Court announced Thursday that it will again take up a case from Illinois that seeks to do away with mandatory fees for public sector unions.

Nearly half of the states in the country allow them. The unions argue the bargaining process benefits all workers, even if they are non-members.

A Carbondale man has been arrested in a stabbing incident over the weekend.

Carbondale Police say 36-year-old Nathan Bowles is accused of stabbing the victim following a dispute around 4:30 Sunday morning in the 400 block of East Sycamore Street.

A standoff in Jackson County ended peacefully.

The Jackson County Sheriff's Department says 25-year-old Zachary Todd of Pomona faces charges of unlawful possession of a firearm and aggravated discharge of a firearm. He reportedly fired a gun at a family member.

The Jackson County Sheriff's Department is investigating a double homicide in rural Murphysboro.

Deputies say 65-year-old Burl Ritcheson, and his 65-year-old wife Brenda, were found dead inside their home just after midnight on Monday by an adult family member who lived with the couple.

Two Franklin County residents have been arrested for a burglary at a southern Illinois coal mine.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Department says 36-year-old Robert Gifford and 35-year-old Jennifer Gifford, both of Sesser, were charged with burglary and theft of over 500-dollars.

Two people are in custody in Jefferson County after an explosive device was found inside a residence.

Deputies say at around 7:30 Monday evening, they and other area law enforcement agencies served a search warrant for drugs and explosives on North Stratford Lane in Jefferson County.
