Williamson Co. State's Attorney

A Williamson County jury has found Jack Thomas, Jr. guilty of first-degree murder.

The Williamson County State's Attorney's office says jurors Monday convicted Thomas of murdering Michael Reed of Marion in 2015.

Carterville Police are investigating two separate burglaries from this past weekend.

Officers responded to a report of a burglary at a business in the 200 block of Commercial Drive on Saturday at 3:20 a.m. The officers found someone broke a window and stole cash.

A Carbondale woman was sentenced Wednesday for engaging in a scheme to steal from a health care program.

A Herrin man is charged with robbing a Marion gas station.

The U.S. attorney says Travis Taylor is accused of robbing the Valero Gas Station in Marion on April 25th.

Murphysboro Police

One of the two suspects wanted for a recent string of home and auto burglaries in Murphysboro has been identified.

Police say 18-year-old Daron Curtis Smith of Murphysboro is in custody on a charge of attempted residential burglary.

Prosecutors have dropped an invasion-of-privacy charge against Missouri Gov. Eric Greitens but say they hope to refile the case.


A Randolph County man is headed to prison on methamphetamine charges.

The U.S. attorney says 35-year-old Jason Stoker of Chester received a 15-year federal prison sentence.

Carbondale Police are searching for a man wanted for an attempted abduction Wednesday morning.

Officers say while walking to school on the north side of East College Street, a teenage girl saw a man near The Fields Apartments complex at 700 South Lewis Lane. The man called out to her, but she ignored him. He then ran across the street and grabbed her around the waist.

Murphysboro Police hope they have solved the mystery of who has been committing a rash of home and auto burglaries in town.

Chief of Police Chad Roberts says 14 home and auto burglaries were reported in the southwestern and northern parts of town during the week of April 16th and again on April 29th.

A Chicago area man has been convicted of crimes in Carbondale.

The Jackson County State's Attorney says 44-year old Arthur Eckles Jr., of Calumet City has been found guilty of armed robbery and aggravated robbery.

Carbondale Police say they don't suspect two shootings over the weekend are related.

The incidents sent two victims to St. Louis Hospitals, and happened hours apart... but investigators say there is no evidence the two are connected.

A southeastern Illinois man has been sentenced to the maximum 60 years in prison for raping an 8-year-old girl who was later found dead.

On Wednesday, March 21 around 12:00 p.m., officers with the City of Carbondale Police Department located Mariyiah Turner and Ciara Stidhum in Carbondale.

They were accompanied by a third female juvenile who was also listed as a runaway. The three girls were found safe and healthy. All were returned to the custody of their parents.

A Cairo man is sentenced in federal court for his role in the attempted 2014 armed robbery of the First National Bank in Cairo and for other related crimes.

A man wanted for murder in southwest Indiana was arrested over the weekend in southern Illinois.

Union County officials say 35-year-old Jacob Louis Wilson is in custody on a Gibson County, Indiana warrant charging him with one count of murder.

Two men were shot late Sunday night and early Monday morning in two separate incidents in Carbondale.

Police say at around 11:25 p.m., they responded to the 1200 block of North Bridge Street after a report of shots fired. Officers learned that a white vehicle left the area at a high rate of speed prior to officers arriving.

A Marion County man pleaded guilty to five counts of bank fraud.

The U.S. attorney's office says 75-year-old Alfred Cross of Kinmundy will be sentenced on May 9th. Each of the bank fraud counts carries a sentence of up to thirty years in prison.

The former treasurer of the southern Illinois town of Zeigler has admitted to stealing hundreds of thousands in government funds.

The U.S. attorney says 44-year-old Ryan Thorpe pleaded guilty to five counts of wire fraud and embezzlement.

Two men - one wanted for murder - are in custody after a drug bust in Marion Thursday.

The Marion Police Narcotics Unit raided two homes on West Boulevard Street. Investigators say heroin, crack cocaine, marijuana, cash, and ammunition were all found in addition to the two suspects.

Sixteen law enforcement agencies across southern Illinois trained Tuesday at John A. Logan College on a federal program called Stop the Bleed.

It's designed to train officers how to handle life-threatening situations where a tourniquet is needed, such as mass shootings, traffic crashes or drug overdoses. Each agency also received bleeding control kits.

A Pulaski County man is headed to prison after pleading guilty to firing gunshots in Carbondale last year.

The Jackson County State's Attorney says 25-year-old Devante Taylor of Olmstead was sentenced to eight years on the charge of Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm.
