Gun Laws

Governor Bruce Rauner has a track record of handing the toughest topics to small bipartisan panels of legislators.

These so-called working groups have been tasked with solving the budget, pensions, and criminal justice reform. And weeks after the Florida mass shooting, he formed a working group on public safety. But like the others, that group meets in private.

March For Our Lives in Carbondale and Elsewhere

Mar 23, 2018

Two Carbondale Community High School seniors are leading the way to gun reform.

Across the nation thousands will come together on Saturday for March for Our Lives. This march comes in the wake of the Parkland, Florida shooting where 17 people lost their lives and thousands are calling on Congress for gun reform including, Alexis Jones and Maria Maring.

Hundreds of people descended on the statehouse Wednesday to urge legislators pass stricter gun regulations. Moms Demand Action For Gun Sense has chapters across the country, it was founded in 20-12 as a response to the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary.

Congressman John Shimkus says people with a state permit to carry a concealed weapon should be allowed to carry their guns in other states.

Shimkus co-sponsored the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act, or H-R 38. It says people authorized to carry a concealed weapon in their home state can do so in any other state --- even if that state’s concealed-carry law is stricter.
