Carbondale Police Investigate Weekend Shooting

Early Saturday morning Carbondale Police say a man arrived at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale with a life-threatening gunshot wound.

Authorities say the victim is a 27-year-old man from Chicago.

A five-year-old boy was killed in Carbondale Monday night after being hit by a vehicle.

Carbondale Police say the incident occurred around 8 p.m. in the 500 block of North Wall Street.

A Kansas man has been indicted on charges that he fired the shots that wounded a southern Illinois police officer during a chase two years ago.

A Jackson County grand jury returned the indictment Thursday against 24-year-old Alex B. Karcher of Salina, Kansas, on felony charges of aggravated battery and aggravated discharge of a firearm.

Karcher is charged with firing several shots at Carbondale Officer Trey Harris. Officials say one shot wounded Harris in the eye, causing him to lose vision.

A Carbondale Police officer has been honored for his efforts to stop an active shooter situation last year.

Sergeant Guy Draper was awarded the Chief's Medal of Valor and the Illinois Fraternal Order of Police Medal of Valor Wednesday during a ceremony at the Carbondale Public Safety Center.

One of two additional men wanted in connection to a shooting incident in Carbondale early Sunday morning is in custody.

Carbondale Police say 21-year-old Rahsaan Graham, Jr. of Murphysboro was arrested Wednesday in Murphysboro.

No injuries were reported after gunfire early Sunday morning in the 500 block of South Illinois Avenue in Carbondale.

A Carbondale police officer is on paid leave, as the department investigates a social media post that's stirring controversy.

The post shows a coffee mug with a photo of a man lying on the ground. Local social media groups say the man has mental health and substance abuse issues.

Carterville Police are investigating two separate burglaries from this past weekend.

Officers responded to a report of a burglary at a business in the 200 block of Commercial Drive on Saturday at 3:20 a.m. The officers found someone broke a window and stole cash.

Carbondale Police are searching for a man wanted for an attempted abduction Wednesday morning.

Officers say while walking to school on the north side of East College Street, a teenage girl saw a man near The Fields Apartments complex at 700 South Lewis Lane. The man called out to her, but she ignored him. He then ran across the street and grabbed her around the waist.

Carbondale Police say they don't suspect two shootings over the weekend are related.

The incidents sent two victims to St. Louis Hospitals, and happened hours apart... but investigators say there is no evidence the two are connected.

On Wednesday, March 21 around 12:00 p.m., officers with the City of Carbondale Police Department located Mariyiah Turner and Ciara Stidhum in Carbondale.

They were accompanied by a third female juvenile who was also listed as a runaway. The three girls were found safe and healthy. All were returned to the custody of their parents.

Two men were shot late Sunday night and early Monday morning in two separate incidents in Carbondale.

Police say at around 11:25 p.m., they responded to the 1200 block of North Bridge Street after a report of shots fired. Officers learned that a white vehicle left the area at a high rate of speed prior to officers arriving.

Carbondale Police are searching for anyone involved in the burglary of a construction site.

Officers responded to the 2500 block of East Walnut Street at around 7:30 Thursday morning.

A Pulaski County man is headed to prison after pleading guilty to firing gunshots in Carbondale last year.

The Jackson County State's Attorney says 25-year-old Devante Taylor of Olmstead was sentenced to eight years on the charge of Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm.

Carbondale Police are investigating after two people were shot on East Mill Street just before midnight Thursday.

Investigators say one of the victims - 35 year old Brandon Brooks of Carbondale - was killed, and another has been transferred to a St. Louis hospital for treatment.

A suspect has been arrested for an armed robbery last week at the Circle K convenience store in Carbondale.

The Carbondale Police Department says 43-year-old Arthur Eckles, Jr. of Calumet City was arrested and taken to the Jackson County Jail, where his bond is set at 500-thousand dollars.

A southern Illinois woman avoids jail time for resisting a peace officer earlier this year.

The Jackson County State's Attorney's office says 29-year-old Lauren Stoelzle of Herrin was sentenced to serve 12 months' probation and perform 100 hours of public service work. She was found guilty in a bench trial.

The Cities of Carbondale and Herrin are offering a $3,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for a recent string of armed robberies in both cities.

Seven robberies occurred from July 27th through September 16th.

The Carbondale and Herrin Police Departments have partnered to investigate a series of recent armed robberies that have occurred in both towns.
