Hundreds Attend Cairo Job and Resource Fair

Job seekers of all ages  mingled with employers and workforce agencies Wednesday at a job and resource fair in Cairo, sponsored by the Alexander County Housing Authority.  

Lisa Childs, Principal of Cairo Junior and Senior High Schools brought several Seniors to the event and they were very eager to get started with life after high school. 

Cairo resident Tyrell  Harris was very optimistic about finding a job.  He also mentioned that there were some social service agencies  at the fair offering transportation solutions to those who do not have reliable transportation. 

An effort to boost the economy of Cairo is moving forward as we start the New Year.

The Cairo Public Utility Company says the Rauner Family Foundation - a philanthropic vehicle for Governor Bruce Rauner and his wife Diana - helped kickstart the project with a 100-thousand dollar donation.

An Illinois panel is expected to hear a case against a troubled public housing authority facing allegations of unfair labor.


A job and resource fair is scheduled for next month to help those being displaced by the demolition of two public housing complexes in Cairo.

Two former officials with the Alexander County Housing Authority face a civil fraud complaint accusing them of using public housing money for personal use.

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development announced the complaint Tuesday against former housing authority executive directors James Wilson and Martha Franklin.
