Youngstown State University President Randy Dunn's resignation blind-sided the Ohio university's Board of Trustees.
Dunn is only in the 7th month of his tenure at YSU. Dr Sudershan Garg is the chair of the Youngstown State University Board. He says he feels as if they hired the best person for the job and he was stolen from them by SIU.
Garg says he understands this is a once in a life time opportunity for Dunn. The YSU Board met with Dunn for two and a half hours Monday night in closed session. The Board could have voted to release Dunn without enforcing the 180-day notice; instead YSU and Dunn are holding to the terms of his contract.
Dunn says he understands the sense of betrayal... while he is staying at YSU through August 16th, he says the SIU post is one of those opportunities he couldn't pass up. Dunn says he was approached by SIU and did not seek out the job.
Dunn says he looks forward to finishing out his tenure at Youngstown State over the next six months. YSU Board Chair Dr. Garg says it will probably take 4 to 6 month to find Dunn's replacement. The YSU Board is expected to meet again in a few days to begin their search process.
