WSIU Powered by Two! Twosday Coming June 24

WSIU Radio Seeks Song Recommendations from Public for On-Air Event

Carbondale, Ill. -- The WSIU Public Broadcasting stations are kicking off Powered by Two! Twosday on June 24, their first-ever, one-day-only on-air member campaign. The goal is to double WSIU's donor roll from 3,000 to 6,000 members over the course of the day.

The all-day event kicks off at 6am on WSIU Radio only on “Twosday”, June 24 and will feature WSIU, SIU Carbondale, and community volunteers sharing Powered by Two! stories and messages -- live -- throughout the day, interspersed with fun spots celebrating the “power of two.”

To wrap up the day, WSIU Radio will depart from its regular programming beginning at 6:30pm for a three-hour “Music-palooza”. FM Operations Manager Lisa Morrisette will spin a selection of hits -- from rock and pop to country and R&B -- that feature “Two” or “Tuesday” in their title or lyrics and that celebrate friendship, love, and togetherness.

WSIU is seeking song recommendations from the general public, who are invited to share their suggestions at requests@wsiu.org, (618) 453-8272, or www.facebook.com/wsiuradio.

“Powered by Two! is a great way for WSIU and our listeners to celebrate summer and celebrate the important role that listener support plays in the life of this station,” says Jeff Williams, WSIU Radio General Manager & News & Public Affairs Director. “Empowering our listeners to recruit new members not only helps us expand our membership base, it also gives our donors a real sense that they have a stake in the future of the station and its long term sustainability. Powered by Two! Twosday emphasizes the fun in fundraising while building a sense of community. We also want our listeners to get into the spirit of things and send in their requests for their favorite musical duo or buddy song.”

Current WSIU donors are asked to invite a friend or family member who has not made a contribution in the past to make a first-time donation on or before June 24 at 800-745-9748 or wsiu.org. When a new member joins, and mentions their referring WSIU member, both will receive an exclusive Powered by Two! coffee mug or t-shirt as a thank you gift.

Participants are also invited to take a “Powered by Twofie” photo (instead of a “selfie”) while holding a “Powered by Two” sign and posting the photo on WSIU's Facebook pages at facebook.com/wsiuradio and facebook.com/wsiutv, and also on their own Facebook pages. Downloadable signs are available at wsiu.org.
