WSIU continues its series on Poverty in southern Illinois.  In this installment, we take a look at the link between poverty and education, and how education can fight poverty.  In this feature you will hear from: 

Matt Donkin Regional Superintendent of Regional Office of Education #21 which includes Franklin, Johnson, Massac and Williamson Counties

Monte Newlin Regional Superintendent of Regional Office of Education #12 which covers Clay, Crawford, Jasper, Lawrence and Richland Counties.

Ron Daniels Regional Superintendent of Regional Office of Education #13 which includes the following counties: Clinton, Jefferson, Marion and Washington.

Joe Fatheree, Effingham High School Teacher and  Illinois 2007  Teacher of Year.

Kevin Boucher is a retired broadcaster. Most recently he was a news reporter for WSIU radio. He grew up watching nature programs including Mutual of Omaha’s wild kingdom and the many Jacques Cousteau specials which sparked his passion with nature. Kevin also is an avid hiker and loves seeing and writing stories about the many fascinating plants and animals we share our planet with. Kevin is married and has lived in Murphysboro since 1976, after living in many places, including Japan, as the son of a Navy officer.
