WSIU Fall Programs Explore Business Innovation

WSIU-TV presents three new series that profile American business ingenuity, from mom-and-pop shops to manufacturing icons. The first series, Start Up, will begin on Thursday, October 3 at 6am, with NOVA: Making More Stuff and Raw to Ready debuting on October 16 at 8pm and 9pm, respectively. Each series will explore a different business theme and offer an up-close look into the world of entrepreneurs, scientists, and engineers.

Start Up will inspire, educate, and entertain viewers by sharing the real life experiences of average Americans who are taking control of their destiny as entrepreneurs. Hosted by Gary Bredow, Start Up seeks to demystify the process of starting a business through interviews with 40 small business owners from across the country. With small businesses employing over 50% of all people working in the United States, Start Up will give viewers an up-close and personal look at the economic engines next door. Start Up airs on Thursdays, October 3 – December 26 at 6am.

In addition to Start Up, WSIU will air NOVA: Making More Stuff and Raw to Ready back-to-back on Wednesday nights, beginning October 16. Both shows will explore the science behind the transformation of raw materials into new technologies. Narrated by New York Times technology correspondent and author David Pogue, NOVA: Making More Stuff takes viewers on a wild ride through the cutting-edge science that is powering a next wave of technological innovation. The four-part series will examine scientific advances to make “stuff” colder, faster, safer, and wilder.

Airing directly after, Raw to Ready focuses on the natural resources and human ingenuity that are forging today's most awe-inspiring machines. Viewers are taken inside factories to see how rayon fibers are used to assemble jets, tree sap strengthens Houston’s newest stadium, and balsa wood creates the windmills that power our homes. NOVA: Making More Stuff and Raw to Ready air on Wednesdays, October 16 – November 6 at 8pm and 9pm, respectively.
