WSIU, Cedarhurst to Host Free Musical and Arts Event
Event is Sat, April 14, 12-3pm at Cedarhurst, Mt. Vernon IL

Carbondale, Ill. -- WSIU Public Broadcasting, the public media arm of Southern Illinois University, and Cedarhurst Center for the Arts, with support from sponsors Southern Illinois Healthcare and the SIU Credit Union, and the Mt. Vernon Convention and Tourism Bureau invite area families to “Pinkalicious Family Day,” a free event focusing on music, creativity, and expression through art.

The event will be held, rain or shine, on Saturday, April 14 from 12-3pm at Cedarhurst Center for the Arts, 2600 Richview Road in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. Free parking will be available at Cedrahurst and at United Methodist Children’s Home, located at 2023 Richview Road.

Kids and families will enjoy a performance of “Pinkalicious!: The Musical” performed by students in the SIU Department of Theater. This production was originally produced by the McLeod Summer Playhouse in 2017 as was directed and choreographed by Wesley Drummond. It has been adapted for the family day event by Thomas Kidd and Emily Turner of the SIU Department of Theater.

Guests will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of art, music, and creative movement activities; take selfies in our ‘Pinkville’ photo booth; view a bubble art demonstration by Don Black of Joyful Bubbles; and enjoy caricature sketches drawn by SIU student, Kate Forer. All families will receive a free children’s book after completing an event survey and will receive giveaways from WSIU and the event sponsors. Guests are invited to bring their own cameras to take photos.
