Wisconsin’s embattled Governor says Illinois is a prime example of why he should remain in office.
Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker visited Springfield Tuesday morning, to address an Illinois Chamber of Commerce gathering. The controversial Walker was met by a huge union protest outside the hotel where the event took place. The first-term republican faces a recall election in June primarily because he restricted union bargaining rights for Wisconsin state employees.
Walker defended his record. He says that unlike Illinois leaders, he has put Wisconsin on sound financial footing without raising taxes or worsening unemployment. Walker says he's using Illinois and its many problems as an argument for keeping him in office. Wisconsin’s governor told reporters the event was a campaign stop meant to show voters in his state that ousting him could mean Illinois-style problems. While union members with a 20-foot inflatable rat protested outside; inside, the crowd greeted Walker with extended standing ovations.
