The National Weather Service says southern Illinois, southeast Missouri, southwest Indiana, and parts of western Kentucky are at an enhanced risk for strong storms, while the Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Oklahoma says large hail, damaging winds, and tornadoes are possible across the most of the region.
The strongest storms are expected to spool up and move from southeast Missouri into southern Illinois through early evening. The greatest risk will be along the low pressure system - primarily over southern Illinois where the atmosphere is expected to be unstable and storms could quickly become severe.
A chance of showers and thunderstorms will linger through late Saturday into early overnight hours on Sunday morning but are not expected to result in severe weather.
