The National Weather Service says winter weather is on its way, and many residents in the quad state area will see between three and five inches of snow.A Winter Storm WARNING is posted for much of the region from 6:00pm Tuesday through Noon Wednesday, roughly along and south of Interstate 64 in southern Illinois, spreading south into southeast Missouri and western Kentucky. Inside that warned area, three to five inches of snow can be expected, with locally higher totals possible.
The rest of the quad state region is under a Winter Weather Advisory. Snowfall totals could range between two and four inches there.
Forecasters say there could be some sleet mixed in with the snow initially. They say the snow will likely stick to roads overnight, with some travel troubles by Wednesday morning.
The snow is expected to move out by mid-day Wednesday. Another system will likely make its way into the region by the end of the week.
