Multiple southern Illinois fire departments helped fight a fire at Royal Fiberglass Pools in Dix Monday. Salem Emergency Management officials say they provided mutual aid along with other fire crews including Jefferson County, Mt. Vernon, Centralia, and Kell. The Fire was reported around 9:30 Monday morning.
Officials say the fire is believed to have started in a pump room after a spark ignited some resin. A large plume of smoke could be seen from Interstate-57 and several surrounding communities. The business is located on North Duncan street in Dix. Authorities say all employees escaped the burning building without injury. The loss is estimated to be in excess of $1-million. The State Fire Marshall's Office is investigating.
