A Unique Fundraiser is Set for Saturday in Carbondale

Flyer

A unique fundraiser is coming up this weekend in Carbondale.

It will be a dance party, featuring the social dance styles of the Middle East.
Nile Breeze Dance Company co-director Tedi Thomas is hosting the event. She says the proceeds will benefit the AMAR Foundation's Escaping Darkness campaign for Yazidi women of Syria, who have escaped the sex enslavement of ISIS.

"When they came through the area of Syria they targeted some of the ethnic minorities to wipe them out and enslave them. So, there's a bunch of women and girls, whose families and villages have been slaughtered and they've been put into enslavement. Every little bit that I take in is going to go directly to this cause and every little bit is going to help somebody to work through the trauma and regain having a life."

The Carbondale event is part of an international fundraising effort called Hafla for Humanity, to help the thousands of women who were bought and sold in markets, raped, and tortured.

Thomas says the funds will be raised through the donations. She is suggesting a minimum ten-dollar donation for attending the event.

The fundraising dance party for Yazidi women and girls will be Saturday from 7-9 p.m. at Willow Street Studios in Carbondale.
