Incoming University of Illinois President Timothy Killeen has set a busy schedule for his first day, meeting with reporters, students and faculty.

Killeen starts work Monday on the Urbana campus. He has planned a morning meeting with the news media and will hold a town hall in the afternoon to discuss the university's goals and challenges. Similar get-togethers will be held Tuesday in Chicago.

He has said he hopes to quickly launch a new strategic planning process for the university.

Killeen is a native of Wales who has lived in the United States for decades. He's the former vice chancellor for research at The State University of New York, a system of 64 campuses and more than 400,000 students.

Illinois has three main campuses and 78,000 students.
