High School students in Franklin County completed building a “Tiny House” this year.
It’s part of a multi-school district construction trades class that’s being revived in Franklin County.
Regional superintendent of Schools Matt Donkin says building a tiny house gave the students experience in all of the skills covered in house construction and they were able to complete it in one year.
“In addition your also trying to work on work skills, from being where your supposed to be when your supposed to be there, fulfilling those kind of duties, planning your time, working with others, those are the work skills that we want to develop in any of our programs.”
Student from different high schools all meet at one place to work on the 178 square foot house.
It will be sold through sealed bids with a minimum price of $21,800 and the money will be used to fund next years project.
Donkin says the construction trades class has been absent from Franklin County for 20 years and this could lead to students learning about new career choices.
“You hope they get the skills that they can walk in and do some of these things in a job immediately after high school.”
The bidding ends May 31st and the winner will be announced later in June.
The house is built on a heavy-duty trailer to make relocating it easier.
