First responders, doctors, nurses and others on the front line of public safety are presenting the first ever Outdoor Safety Day this Saturday in the grassy front lawn of Franklin Hospital. Exhibitors with a variety of information booths will be on hand to remind people to have fun this summer when outdoors, but to also think safety as well. Members of the U-S Army Corps of Engineers will be there to stress water safety IDOT will be there to encourage safe motorcycling, and other first responders will be on hand. Shane Cockrum, Benton Fire Chief, will be on hand with a fire engine and an ambulance for kids to explore as well. Due to its unique location right on I-57 and Rend Lake, Franklin Hospital knows all too well the dangers of unsafe boating and speeding. Shirley Spangler Emergency Preparedness Coordinator for the hospital points out that there are more deaths on I-57 between Mount Vernon and Cairo, than there are on any stretch of the interstate. Saturday's Outdoor Safety Day runs from 9:00AM to 2:00PM. To learn more, see the flyer posted on our website.
