Suspects in SIUC Battery Plead Guilty

Gavel Image

Two people arrested and charged in connection to a battery on SIU Carbondale’s campus earlier this year have pleaded guilty in the incident.

Jackson County Court records show Abdoulaye Sow and Martell Scott pleaded guilty last week (July 21) to misdemeanor battery – and each received two years conditional discharge. They’ll also have to pay fines and fees associated with the case.

Sow and Scott were caught on security cameras in an incident at Lawson Hall on April 17. Reports initially said shots were fired, but investigators later said there was no evidence of that.

Sow was an SIU student at the time of the fight, Scott was not. The victim in the beating didn’t seek medical treatment.
