Storms Move Across Quad-State

WSIU Radio

Strong storms are moving across the quad-state this afternoon.

Franklin County Emergency Management Agency is reporting flash flooding in several areas of the county as a result of isolated heavy rains associated with this afternoon's storms.  Authorities warn against trying to drive on flooded roadways.

Tornado warnings were issued earlier this afternoon for portions of southeast Missiouri.   The National Weather Service began issuing Severe Thunderstorm warnings shortly after the noon hour.

Storms have produced hail, damaging wind, and isolated heavy rain throughout southeast Missouri into southern and south-central Illinois.  Most of the severe weather is along and south of Interstate-70.

Local emergency officials have reported trees down across roads west of Ava, IL along with trees down along US-61 in Perry County, Missouri.

A tornado watch remains in effect for the entire listening area until 8:00pm tonight.
