Eastern Illinois University has hired Jay Spoonhour as its new head men's basketball coach.  The announcement was made Friday.  The university will officially introduce Spoonhour during a news conference Monday.  EIU chose Spoonhour from a field of five finalists.  Spoonhour has been Moberly Area Community College's coach for the past three seasons. He previously won the NJCAA national championship at Wabash College.  Spoonhour was also previously an assistant at Missouri, Saint Louis, UNLV, Texas-San Antonio and Valparaiso and an interim head coach at UNLV.

Spoonhour replaces Mike Miller who was fired after a 12-17 season. Miller compiled a 75-130 overall record and a 44-84 conference mark during his tenure at Eastern Illinois University.  Spoohour was 64-27 in three seasons at Moberly.
