Kenny Troutt (middle with yellow tie) accepts the Preakness Stakes trophy after Justify's win on May 19, 2018.

Saturday could be a big day in the life of a former SIU football player.

Kenny Troutt is the primary owner of the racehorse, Justify, which is vying to win the Triple Crown in the Belmont Stakes.
The Mt. Vernon native owns Winstar Farms in Kentucky and has had horses win all three of horseracing's Triple Crown races, just never in the same year.

The Troutt-Wittmann Academic and Training Center attached to SIU Arena is named after Troutt and former Saluki football teammate Pete Wittmann. The 10-thousand square foot addition contains study areas for student athletes as well as expanded weight room facilities.

Troutt is the founder of Excel Communications.

The Belmont Stakes is scheduled for just after 5:30 p.m. Saturday.
