A southern Illinois man will discuss his work to help rescue a youth soccer team from a cave in Thailand.
This past summer, the players and their coach were trapped in a cave due to high water.
One of the rescue team's members was Thanet Natisri, who owns THAI-D Classic Cuisine in Marion. The native of Thailand is a groundwater expert, who originally went to his home country to work on a project pertaining to irrigation techniques, but the military asked him to assist with the rescue efforts.
This Thursday night, Natisri is hosting a special event at SIU-Carbondale where he will discuss his efforts to rescue the team. The event will be held at 7 PM in Room 102 of the agriculture building. It's free and open to the public.
