Some Faculty Call for Resignation of U of I President

Univ. of IL President Michael Hogan

About a hundred faculty members at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign have signed a letter, urging U of I President Michael Hogan to step down. The letter comes more than a month after Hogan’s chief of staff resigned amid an investigation into e-mails sent to the Faculty Senates Conference concerning Hogan’s enrollment policy.  An investigation cleared President Hogan of any wrongdoing, but faculty leaders aren’t satisfied with his leadership.

In the letter…which was addressed to the University’s Board of Trustees…they outline 10 issues they have with Hogan. Among them, they claim he interfered with discussions by the Senates Conference concerning the enrollment management plan. They’re also unhappy with the President for allowing his former chief of staff to stay with the U of I as a full-time tenured professor. And they accuse Hogan of pressuring Urbana Chancellor Phyllis Wise to quell faculty opposition to the enrollment proposal.

A University spokesman says many of the claims against Hogan in the letter are not supported by any facts, and that the President has no intention of resigning.
