So IL Facing Job Loss Under Gov's Budget Plan

Governor Quinn’s proposed budget cuts will translate into the loss of several hundred jobs in southern Illinois.

Quinn is proposing the elimination of as many as 1,200 jobs.  More than 800 of those would be in southern Illinois.

According to the Governor’s budget briefing Tuesday Night the Tamms Supermax prison will result in the loss of 300 jobs when it is scheduled to close at the end of August; along with the closure of the the Southern Illinois Adult Transition Center in Carbondale and the State Police Crime Lab also in Carbondale, both  would result in the loss of 17 jobs apiece.    The Governor also proposes consolidating state police telecom centers at each district head quarters.  The plan would create regional centers and reduce staffing by about 60-positions state wide.  District-13 headquarters in DuQuoin could potentially be a location for one of the regional telecom centers, but that would mean a potential loss of jobs at state police operations in Effingham and Ullin.

Governor Quinn proposes closing the Illinois Youth Center in Murphysboro at the end of July.  That would result in the loss of 91 jobs.  The Governor has also targeted the Murray Developmental Center in Centralia.  That would mean the loss of more than 500 jobs when it’s scheduled to close in November of 2013.

Governor Quinn also wants to consolidate Department of Human Services Offices in Clay, Clinton, Fayette, Lawrence, Richland, Shelby, and White counties in southern Illinois.
