The Illinois Department of Transportation is reporting icy and snow covers roads across most of southern Illinois.
The storm system moved into the metro-east area late Saturday night with a wintry mix of precipitation. As of Sunday morning, all of Interstate 64 is reported as snow and ice covered from St. Louis to the Indiana line.
Interstate 57 is reported as snow and ice covered from the Missouri state line to Effingham. Interstate 24 is also snow and ice covered from the Kentucky state line to its junction with I-57.
Interstate 70 is reported as snow and ice covered from St. Louis to the Indiana line.
The National Weather Service says road conditions will rapidly deteariorate throughout the day on Sunday as temperatures fall into the low 20's. Sunday night the freezing rain is expected to turn over to all snow. Accumulations of 4-6 inches of snow on top of as much as half an inch of ice will make travel dangerous.
