SIU defensive coordinator Bubba Schweigert is the new head football coach for the University of North Dakota.
UND Athletics Director Brian Faisonmade the announcement Tuesday afternoon. Schweigert will be formally introduced on Friday. He becomes the 26th head coach at North Dakota. This will be the second stint at UND for Schweigert. He spent 15 seasons as an assistant coach in Grand Forks from 1989 to 2003 where he was part of eight NCAA playoff teams and six NCC title squads. He helped lead the program to the 2001 NCAA division 2 national title as defensive coordinator.
In his six seasons at SIU, Schweigert has had three first team All-Americans and 20 all-conference selections.
