As two-time NCAA champion and American collegiate record holder DeAnna Price of SIU turns her attention to the U.S. Olympic Trials and qualifying for the Olympic Games this summer, she has been named a semi-finalist for the 2016 Bowerman Award.
The United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association says Price is one of 10 female student-athletes to be named a semifinalist for the most prestigious award in collegiate track and field. Price is the second in Saluki history to be a semifinalist, joining Jeneva McCall in 2012. This season, Price dominated her event throughout the entire collegiate season, punctuating her two-year reign as hammer throw champion by breaking her own NCAA Championship record last week.
Finalists will be announced on Thursday, June 23.
The award is named after legendary former coach of the Oregon Ducks and co-founder of Nike, Bill Bowerman. It's presented annually to the most outstanding male and female collegiate track and field athletes in the nation and has been called by some "The Heisman Trophy of Track and Field."
