The labor dispute between the Faculty Association and the SIUC Administration is causing a mix of emotions and experiences...
Faculty Association Spokesman Dave Johnson says walking the picket line Thursday was a strange yet heart-warming ordeal. He says the support shown Thursday for the Faculty Association has given the union the confidence and resolve to move forward with the strike.
Speech-Communications graduate assistant Julie Kasenza is teaching her classes but is also supporting the strike. She says she disagrees with what she calls "scare tactics" the administration has used in communicating with students. Kasenza says the emails students received from the administration leading up to the Faculty Association strike deadline indicated they could lose their assistantships or have their tuition waivers taken away.
As both a teacher and a student, Kasenza says she understand that fear and believes the university administration did not handle those communications very well.
