Officials at SIU-Carbondale say enrollment this spring corresponds with the numbers last fall.

The school says spring enrollment declined 8.81 percent, slightly improving on the 8.96 percent decline in fall 2017.
SIU-C Chancellor Carlo Montemagno said the decline was expected since new students don't typically enroll in the spring, while some students graduate in December. Around 860 students took part in commencement exercises at the end of the fall semester.

The university enrolled 13,346 students this spring compared with 14,636 in spring 2017.
