SIU-C is doing what it can to get prospective students on campus to help boost enrollment.

On Wednesday, the College of Business welcomed 400 high school and community college students within a two-hour radius of Carbondale.
College of Business Chief Marketing Officer Christie Mitchell says one of their students spoke to the group.

"Bradley Marks was one of our students. He's a freshman here with us. He was president of FBLA for the State of Illinois last year as a senior at Marion High School. He actually met a lot of the students and talked about why he chose SIU and why he's here today. He kind of was our M.C. for the night. Of course, our dean, Terry Clark, also spoke."

Mitchell says she thinks the students got the message that SIU-C is a great place to be.

"The feedback we've gotten so far has been really good. We've already heard back from some of the facilitators at the high schools that their students really enjoyed it and the ones that were not able to make it are really disappointed now that they found out how much fun they had."

Mitchell says the students started with a welcome reception where they could visit information tables from all the colleges on campus. They also heard from SIU-C College of Business graduate and U.S. Olympian Deanna Price, Saluki Director of Athletics Jerry Kill and Carbondale Mayor Mike Henry. To end the day, the students received tickets to the Saluki men's basketball game vs. St. Louis University.

Mitchell hopes to make this an annual event.
