A revision to SIUC Chancellor Carlo Montemagno's campus reorganization plan is circulating - and he says it takes into account some criticisms and suggested changes.
Montemagno says he understands concerns about how his plan - which would eliminate department chairs and merge programs into new colleges and schools - will turn around enrollment.
"Great programs attract excellent students who pay tuition. It also provides a platform for our faculty to excel in their research and to attract external funding. And finally, having great programs and great research attracts other funding - donor funding, industrial funding, who want to be part of the upward trajectory of an institution."
He says this is the next step in the process - and stands by his assertion that the university needs an overhaul.
"Part of engaging in change is understand that moving forward means sometimes you have to leave things behind that you've held dear. But you have to leave them behind because you need to progress."
Montemagno says he'll unveil the full revision later this week to the campus and community at large.
