Southern Illinois University Carbondale officials broke ground Monday on a new Student Services building.
The 125-thousand square foot facility will house 19 university departments and serve students, parents and alumni in one location. SIU President Glenn Poshard says this will help the Carbondale campus provide its students with an outstanding educational experience.
SIU-C Chancellor Rita Cheng says this new building will end the frustrating "Woody Hall Shuffle" for students. She says with it being located just northeast of the Student Center, the new facility will also improve the esthetics of the campus.
The projected cost for design and construction is $36.6 million. Student fees are generating the funds for the new facility. Construction is expected to be completed in June 2013.
