SIU Trustees to Consider Tuition, Fees, & Budget

Money matters will be top on the list for SIU Trustees as they meet in Carbondale this week.

President Randy Dunn says the Board will be talking about Gov. Bruce Rauner's budget proposal, as well as potential tuition and fee rates, as they meet on Wednesday: "We will look at kind of a full range of approaches to tuition and fees. The Board will have about a month to consider those, and we will take final action - or at least, I'll say we're going to recommend the Board take final action - at the April meeting."

Dunn says the Rauner budget, if passed, would mean a doubling of SIU's tuition rates - and he says that won't happen: "You're not going to see some over-the-top increase. It's just not going to work as a part of our business model. But it's going to be an important decision the Board has to make."

Thursday's regular meeting includes more discussion of budget priorities, as well as an item addressing employees who are not represented in a recent Illinois Educational Labor Relations Board ruling requiring repayment for furlough days.

The Board meets Wednesday and Thursday. It's the first meeting for new trustees Phil Gilbert and Amy Sholar - who are replacing Don Lowery and Marquita Wiley.
